The only piece missing is his mother, held captive by his evil grandfather, Orion, who's bent on taking over the five kingdoms. To rescue his mother, Simon sets off cross-country with his friends to the reptile kingdom, battling rogue Animalgams and their own doubts and torn loyalties along the way. But if he’s going to stop Orion, Simon will need to keep him from gathering together the fragments of a terrible weapon, or the lives of everyone Simon loves will be at risk. With action and adventure, this story is perfect for fans of Rick Riordan and Brandon Mull.
I was gifted an ebook via Netgalley. Overall, I would say this is a solid sequel to Simon Thorn and the Wolf's Den. I really loved seeing more of Ariana and Jam, as well as, being introduced to new Animalgams. I'm liking how family dynamics are ever present throughout the novel. It's interesting to see the different characters struggle with finding a family in those they share blood with and then realizing they have family to those they don't share blood with.

I knocked off a star due to angsty Simon and Winter - who both don't seem to take the mature route when upset. Reminds me of angsty Harry Potter. Sure he has his newly discovered brother, Nolan, who he still has a touchy relationship with, and his Uncle Malcolm, the mammal kingdom's new Alpha, but he misses his mother more than anything, even though she lied to him and was rarely around. So, when evidence of where she may be held shows up he needs to act quickly.
Escaping the L.A.I.R. With his friends won't be easy, but they need to travel to Arizona and straight to the heart of the Reptile Kingdom. In this installment, Simon's character development is heavily focused on belonging and family. He has two grandparents who would kill him if he got in the way of their plans, and who would definitely kill his brother, he isn't sure if Malcolm is caring for him because he wants to or because Darryl made him promise to, and he tries to keep his distance from Nolan because if Nolan ever found out that he isn't the only heir to the Beast King and that Simon inherited those abilities as well, he would never forgive Simon. Might And Magic Heroes 6 Скачать Трейнер more.
I really liked Simon in this installment, even though I couldn't personally relate to him, as I sometimes feel smothered by family and feel very comfortable where I live, I could still sympathize with his plight and every choice he made because of the pain he feels and the longing he has felt very genuine. I loved his development over the course of this book and can't wait to see what new developments await in future installments. World Building: With the first book in this series setting up not only the Animalgam world for readers and the overarching plot of the series, the hunt for the pieces of The Predator and protecting the Beast King's heir(s), there wasn't all that much time to get to see outside of the L.A.I.R.
Let alone outside of New York. In this installment, our heroes travel across the country to visit the reptile kingdom. Their mission is two-fold, rescue Simon's mom and obtain the reptiles' piece of The Predator. Along the way they run into other Animalgams who's lives are very different than those at the L.A.I.R. Since most of the mammals at the L.A.I.R.
Are predators we never really get to see what life is like for those whose animal forms don't seem to be able to defend themselves. Also, with Malcolm's title as Alpha so new, Celeste isn't down for the count. This is a woman who's made it her life's work to gain the powers of the Beast King and a simple exile isn't going to stop her plans.
Ironically, Simon's other grandparent has similar aspirations and as Orion has Isabel, Simon's mother and the only one outside the kingdoms who knows where the pieces of the predator are hidden, as his captive it's only a matter of time before he puts his plan into motion and tracks down someone to force Isabel to talk. I really enjoyed getting to see a larger version of the Animalgam world. While we really have a large focus on the Reptile Kingdom, it's a fascinating look into the politics of this world. It's a very democratic system, though others seem to exert pressure on those who are supposed to have the same amount of power. I loved getting to see a little piece of their world and am ready for the next kingdom.
Predictability: Going into this book I had pretty high expectations for the story. I thought I had it all figured out. Well, not all, but I thought I had a general idea of where the story was going to go and both how the plot, as well as the character development, was headed. Soon enough, however, I realized that I may have jumped the gun a bit. As the story unfolded my ideas of what was going to happen changed and even then the author was able to throw in some killer twists. A point of pride for me is my ability to catch on to small bits of foreshadowing and figure out where the story is headed, and when I guess something huge, something that I feel the author would have though impossible to guess, I surge with pride.
However, I still find myself more entertained and more delighted to see when an author pulls the rug out from under me and creates a major wrinkle in the story that alters how the series will proceed from here on out. While there wasn't anything that cataclysmic that went on in this book there are things that will be small game changers and hopefully add to an exciting third installment. Ending: As we get to the end of the book, and honestly I would consider this book as having a substantial ending as, after a certain point, there's an air of tension that doesn't go away until after the final climax. There's a lot that revealed in this ending so I won't spend too much time talking about it and I won't spoil anything, but this story does create a turning point in the narrative. Soon enough it becomes clear where this series is going next, both in the literal sense, as in which kingdom we're visiting next, and more in the metaphoric with the main goals of our characters. The final climax winds things down and brings in some new wrinkles to the story that if they pan out like I hope and expect it will make for a very exciting next installment. Rating: This book is incredible.
I love how the story of this world evokes the same feelings as a Rick Riordan book, and yet still has something about it that makes it incredibly unique. While there were a few things I was hoping to see in this book, it looks like that may be saved for book 3, so I'm appeased for now, but still chomping at the bit for what comes next!

The end says Simon Thorn going home without being hurt. I thought the book was fabulous, because it had lots of adventure and action. I would recommend this to anyone that likes to read fiction and a book with a lot of action. I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series. Simon sometimes makes poor choices and is very stubborn, but he is also very loyal to his friends and family, and of course he is still grieving the loss of important people in his life from the first book. In this adventure Simon and his friends travel across the country to follow a clue his mother left on a postcard.

The book kept moving at a great pace and introduced a lot of great new characters while continuing to develop the original characters. I truly cannot wait for the third book! The one he did have has abandoned him for the “cooler crowd” due to an incident in which Simon was caught talking to a few animals. Now he’s the “freaky” kid that no one wants to be around. However, that all changes the day he’s warned by a bald eagle that his life is in danger, his mother makes an unexpected return home, and suddenly, he and his uncle get chased by vicious rats.
As Simon realizes there may be more to his ability to talk to animals, he’s pulled into the world of the Animalgams. In the Animalgam world, there are five kingdoms: mammals, birds, insects, underwater, and reptiles. There’s even a secret academy in Central Park Zoo where he meets an uncle he never knew he had, and more, a twin brother! Finally, Simon is meeting kids close to his age that have known they could turn into animals their whole lives. But the more Simon learns about this world, the more he doesn’t like, especially when he discovers he’s a pawn in a chess game between the mammal Alpha, his mother, his grandfather, and the rest of the kingdom leaders. In the first book, Simon is dealing with learning about the world he’s never known about and the people who will eventually become his family; not to mention fighting in a war between the five kingdoms. In the second book, the stakes are higher.
Simon is trying to figure out his place in the Animalgam world, avoid getting picked off by the warring bird kingdom (which is led by his manipulative grandfather) and the old Alpha of the mammal kingdom, and save his mom from Orion. For me, these books had most of the usual MG expectations. Good story, albeit having a lot of “convenient” rescues; kids who seem to think they can get away unscathed in sticky situations, no matter who’s trying to protect them; and the absence of any real parenting skills that force the character to adapt and evolve in his own way.
It has funny one-liners, lots of “aww” moments, and lots of child-like humor that’s often cute. However, after having a chat with co-blogger and friend Ivana, I realized that this particular series is missing something huge that all children’s’ books have. Where’s the moral of the story here?
I’ve read both books by now and I’m either missing the lesson the lead character learns or it’s just not there. Sure, there’s a great plot. But what is the reader learning? Frankly, Simon bugs me.
I’m not fond of his character. I’m drawn more to Ariana and Jam, two of his friends. Simon is undeniably one of the biggest brats I’ve ever read in MG. I get that he’s twelve. But he’s unnecessarily defiant and bullheaded. He’s also extremely hypocritical, chastising one of the girls – Winter, who also becomes his friend – for the same things he does, lying and not knowing what side she’s on. He’s not exactly choosing a side when he runs away from the people that want to protect him every chance he gets.
I don’t have any children of my own (yet). But I’m certain if I did, I’d have a hard time allowing my son or daughter to read this series. The reasoning behind Simon’s actions just isn’t enough to excuse his continual lack of respect for the people who care for him. He’s just too defiant for me to like him, and I don’t think he’s a good role model for kids.
That being said, I enjoyed the story. It has its ups and down and it’s certainly entertaining! Like I said, I’m very fond of Jam, who’s a dolphin; and Ariana, who’s a Black Widow spy (pretty sure that’s a shout out to Marvel as well). Situs Download Lagu Format Midi. They provide some cool getaways and fun dialogue.
Both these books get three stars from me! My name is Simon, and no one, not even my twin brother Nolan, the King Beast heir, knows that I'm able to transform into any animal. Other Animalgams believe my brother is the only person to have that ability, so he has great power over the different animal kingdoms.
Which is why they'll have no problem killing him, and it's a reason why I keep my abilities secret. My uncle, Alpha of the mammals, is trying to bring me back to the L.A.I.R., and Orion is determined to have the birds capture me too. And my friends have reminded me that Orion is trying to assemble the five parts of the Predator, which he will use to kill my brother and take his powers. My friends have agreed to help me, but the chances for my stupid plan to be successful are slim. I didn't read the first book, and it probably would have helped to understand relationships and motivations. I wish I knew more about how Simon became an Animalgam and why he wasn't raised with his mom and twin brother.
Simon's partners had different talents: Winter became a poisonous snake, Ariana a Black-widow spider, and Jam could change into a dolphin. It would seem that Jam's talents might be useless on land, but it turned out that a dolphin's keen sense of direction is handy when traveling cross country. The plot contained ample adventure, but I wish there had been more action.
There were animal fights, but they felt more like skirmishes until the story's climax. I forgot to mention that Orion also happens to be Simon's grandfather, so it's unusual that he wants to capture and kill his grandsons. Overall, the book was entertaining, and I expect I'll probably go on and read Simon Thorn and the Wolf's Den, the first book in the series.
